Say Goodbye to Winter: Tips on how to declutter your home

With Winter coming to an end and Spring right around the corner, it is a perfect time to begin decluttering your home so you can enjoy the warmer months ahead. Here are 5 simple tips to help make your home feel a little more organised and clutter free.

  1. Sort through your linen cupboard

Sheets, towels and blankets can feel like they multiply over the winter period. While it’s important to keep a few old towels as cleaning rags, it’s important to go through your towels, blankets and linens and remove any that have stains, tears or frays. Think about what is used and what can be donated, just as you would with old clothing.

  1. Remove excess or expired food and beauty products

Winter decluttering is the perfect time to sort through your kitchen pantry and remove any expired seasonal food and other expired products such as supplements and medications.

With winter changing the way our skin feels, the end of the season is a great time to cull any out of date or empty products that may be taking up too much space in your bathroom cupboard. All beauty products have expiry dates so ensure any you do wish to keep are still able to be used.

  1. Eliminate excessive bags and boxes

It’s important to think about sustainable ways to eliminate unnecessary items such as bags and boxes which may have been stored for a while now. If you are holding onto boxes to use in the future for wrapping or mailing gifts, break them down to create more space for storage. Realistically think about how many you need, and break the rest down for recycling.

  1. Get rid of old cleaning products

It’s only normal to use a number of different cleaning products and brands over winter. Sometimes it is easy to lose track of what is needed and what is just taking up too much space in your storage cupboards.

Remove any supplies that are no longer needed and dispose of them properly.

  1. Put away winter clothing

If you haven’t already thought about splitting your cupboard into different seasons, as we move into Spring, it is the perfect time to do so. It can become really difficult trying to fit and sort through all of your clothing, especially bulkier items such as jackets and jumpers.

Pack away your winter clothing and pack it away until the cooler weather is back. During this time, it’s also important to think about items you no longer need or wear and donate these to local charities. If you see something that you can’t remember wearing, it might be time to take this out of your wardrobe.

As we approach the warmer months it’s the perfect opportunity to declutter your home! By decluttering now, you will get a head start on cleaning and decorating your home before you entertain friends and family over the summer period.
