Here at Home Impact HQ, we asked our very talented Senior Interior Designer Karla and Interior Designer Melinda questions on all things interior design including up and coming industry trends, client relations and the day to day role as an interior designer at Home Impact. What are some aspects to consider when designing?
- Windows! Window placement are really important factors to consider when designing, especially in the earlier stages of designing as they provide adequate natural lighting and also provide vistas to views.
- The law of the space is another key item to consider when designing as this determines how spaces are used and how they are connected to each other.
- The kitchen is the heart of the home and where we spend most of our time so placement is really important as it creates connections between all the spaces/zones in your home.
- Storage! You can never have enough storage incorporated into a design.
How do you keep up with industry trends?
Social Media is the best platform for research in terms of current trends. We also use social media platforms as well as trade shows and product launches to help forecast trends.
Is there any interior design style/trend that you love?
An up and coming trend that is making an impression is a modern twist on Hamptons. Also, the introduction of brushed nickel tapware is becoming more and more popular. Embracing natural materials is one trend that will never date.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Seeing the end result is one of the reasons why we love our job!
Working on projects from the initial concept right through until move in is a process in itself. Being able to see a home come to life through creating a client’s vision is very rewarding.
What questions would you ask a client before working on a project together?
A client brief is critical to capturing important details of how they currently live and how they would like to be living. Finding out as many details as possible about the client, their wants and needs and their wishlist items.
What is one project you are most satisfied with and proud of?
All of them! Each project and each client is unique in their own way. No project is ever the same!
Why did you choose to pursue a career in interior design?
We love being creative and bringing ideas and spaces to life.
Where do you find your design inspirations?
Getting out of your comfort zones and exposing yourself to new and different experiences sparks curiosity and new ideas. We mostly find inspiration by going to museums/exhibitions, traveling, being out in nature and photography.
How do you provide a seamless experience for the clients of Home Impact?
Communication is key, having an open dialogue throughout the project with clients as well as trades allows the decision-making process to be more effective and streamline.
